Medical lab technicians play an essential role in medical lab operations. Their tasks include taking care of instruments, gathering data, maintaining records, preparing and conducting chemical and biological analyses as directed by a supervisor, and assisting in all lab procedures (e.g., sample-taking, analyzing the outcomes of experiments).

They  may choose to specialize in an area of expertise such as chemistry, cytotechnology, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, or immunohematology, clinical research.
