INTRODUCTION
Dialysis technicians also known as hemodialysis technician, are medical professionals. They operate dialysis machines necessary for patients suffering from kidney failure. The dialysis technician needs to follow strict protocols for safety purpose and effective outcomes of patients undergoing dialysis procedure. Dialysis technicians monitor and adjust fluid removal rate according to patient vital signs and to minimize the possibility of infection through proper equipment handling and sterilization.
DIALYSIS TECHNICIAN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assembling dialysis machine and ensuring effective performance.
- Monitoring patients undergoing dialysis treatment.
- Ensuring the usage of the dialysis machine is safe and secure.
- Administering local anesthesia.
- Talking to patients throughout the dialysis process to make them feel at ease.
- Monitoring and adjusting patient fluid removal rates as required.
- Working in tandem with nurses and doctors.
- Ensuring sterilization of operating equipment before use.
- Responding to emergency scenarios.
- Attending to patient needs.
- Understanding patient physical and emotional concerns.

A dialysis technician work environment usually includes medical facility. Hemodialysis technician jobs are available in hospitals, clinics and patient care centers specialized for dialysis. They may work regular shifts during the day or work longer shifts, more similar to nursing shifts. As a dialysis technician, one can own dialysis centre with nephrologist’s tie up and provide services to general population and thus become an entrepreneur. Many patients also opt for freelancing services of Dialysis Technician which serves as additional source of income.
